Dear Ryan,
Some babies don't cry
much, and others cry all the time. Some just need to be held by their
mommies all the time. There is not a specific medical condition for
crying a lot, unless it is associated with other problems, e.g.
development problems, feeding problems, etc.
Does he have any feeding
problems? Does he spit up a lot? Is he small for his size? These are
questions I would ask.
Is he developing
normally? The best way to determine if the little guy is developing
normally compared to other infants his age, is to check his
personal-social development, and his overall development skills.
To be more specific, for
an 11 month old little boy, he should be doing the following things:
(For more on development,
see
http://www.intensivecaring.com/development.htm)
If he can't do most of the
list of things above, then it's time for some in depth testing by his
doc.
But, if he is developing
normally, is eating and growing well, he may just need to be held a lot
more than other kids, or just need his mommy.
Good luck and thank you
for your question. Dr. Mike
