Bruising

HI Dr. Pappas You last saw my daughter for her 24 month well baby check. Something has concerned my husband, & I about her & I am hoping you can alleviate our worry. We have noticed a lot of bruising, all over her body, arms & legs mostly, but I have noticed bruising on her head & back also. I am not sure if you remember her, but she is a busy little girl. I am a stay at home mom, so I am with her all the time and she has not had more bumps or injuries than whats usual for her. Basically, she does not come to me crying much about any "owie's", yet she is covered with multiple bruises. Could this be a lack of iron, or any other dietary problem? Clotting problem? Or can this possibly be normal for an active 2 y/o? What do you think? Thank You, in advance. Rebecca A Holland, Ohio

Hi Ms. A, Sounds normal for kids just starting to walk and run, especially on shins, knees, and elbows. If they are really extensive and large, it may be helpful to check her platelet level and red blood cell count (basic blood draw), just to make sure it's normal. I'd be happy to take a look at her if you would like. Does that help? Dr. Mike
